Mount Noshaq Expedition Itinerary

Mount Noshaq, the highest peak in Afghanistan, offers an exceptional high-altitude adventure in the remote Wakhan Corridor. This expedition is designed for trekkers with good physical fitness. No prior mountaineering experience is required up to Base Camp, while the climb above Base Camp becomes more technical and challenging.

Day 1: Arrival in Kabul

  • Activities: Arrival in Kabul, airport transfer, hotel check-in, and expedition briefing.

  • Optional Highlights:Short city visit, including the National Museum and Kabul Bazaar (subject to time and security conditions).

  • Overnight: Hotel in Kabul

  • Altitude:1,800 m


Day 2: Kabul → Faizabad

  • Travel: Full-day drive from Kabul to Faizabad through scenic and remote landscapes.

  • Driving Time: Approx. 12 hours

  • Overnight: Local hotel or guesthouse in Faizabad

  • Altitude:1,200 m


Day 3: Faizabad → Ishkashim

  • Travel: Drive to Ishkashim, the gateway to the Wakhan Corridor.

  • Activities: Completion of required local registrations and preparations.

  • Driving Time: 4–5 hours

  • Overnight: Guesthouse in Ishkashim

  • Altitude: 2,600 m


Day 4: Ishkashim → Qazidah Village

  • Travel: Short drive to Qazdah Village.

  • Activities: Final logistical arrangements, meeting local staff, and preparation for the trekking phase.

  • Driving Time: Approx. 1 hour

  • Overnight: Guesthouse in Qazdah Village

  • Altitude: 2,600 m


Day 5: Qazidah Village → Aub-e Safid

  • Trekking: 5–6 hours

  • Activities: Start of the trek into the heart of the Wakhan region, following river valleys and mountain trails.

  • Overnight: Camping (tents)

  • Altitude: 3,200 m


Day 6: Aub-e Safid → Japan Camp

  • Trekking: 5–6 hours

  • Activities: Gradual ascent through alpine terrain with impressive mountain views.

  • Overnight: Camping (tents)

  • Altitude: 3,800 m


Day 7: Japan Camp → Base Camp

  • Trekking: 6–7 hours

  • Activities: Final trekking day to Mount Noshaq Base Camp.

  • Overnight: Camping (tents)

  • Altitude:4,200 m


Day 8: Base Camp – Rest & Preparation Day

  • Activities: Acclimatization and rest. Camp organization, equipment preparation, and briefings for the climbing phase.

  • Overnight: Camping (tents)

  • Altitude: 4,200 m

      Summit Phase: Mount Noshaq (7,492 m)


      Day 9: Base Camp - Camp 1

      • Ascent trek (6–7 hours) Tent 5,300 m


      Day 10: Camp 1 - Camp 2

      • High-altitude ascent (5–6 hours) Tent 6,400 m4


      Day 11: Camp 2

      • Rest, acclimatization, and recovery Tent 6,400 m


      Day 12: Noshaq Summit Day

      •  Early morning summit attempt before sunrise and return to Camp 2, subject to weather conditions Tent 7,492 m


      Day 13: Camp 2 - Camp 1

      • Descent trek (6–7 hours) Tent 6,400 m


      Day 15: Camp 1 → Base Camp

      • Trekking (6–7 hours) Tent 4,200 m


      Day 16: Base Camp

      • Contingency / rest day Tent 4,200 m


      No technical climbing experience is required up to Base Camp. Beyond Base Camp, the ascent involves steeper terrain, snow and ice travel, and long climbing days, making it physically challenging. Participants must be prepared for high altitude conditions and follow the guidance of the expedition leader at all times.


      Summit attempts will begin early in the morning to ensure safety and favorable weather conditions.

      Return Journey:

      • The return journey from Base Camp to Kunduz or Kabul takes approximately 4–6 days, depending on the chosen exit route and the tourist’s preferred point of departure from the country.
